NKG5 encodes a secreted protein that is expressed only in NK-cells and T-cells and is strongly upregulated upon cell activation (Yabe et al, 1990). NKG5, and 519 and 520, cDNA clones isolated from a T-cell library and encoding a late T-cell activation antigen, are alternative splicing products of the same gene (Houchins et al, 1993; Manning et al, 1992).
