[neuropeptide EI; neuropeptide glutamic acid-isoleucine] This neuropeptide of 14 amino acids (EIGDEENSAKFPIamide) is encoded by the same gene that also encodes MCH [melanin-concentrating hormone] and another neuropeptide NGE [neuropeptide GE; neuropeptide glutamic acid-isoleucine] (Nahon et al, 1989; Presse et al, 1990; Parkes and Vale, 1992). The equivalent peptide in salmonids has been termed NEV [neuropeptide EV] and Mgrp [MCH gene-related peptide] in other fish (Gröneveld et al, 1995).
