[neuroblastoma apoptosis-related RNA-binding protein] NAPOR, called also NAPOR-1 is an RNA binding protein identified by Choi et al (1998, 1999). The gene is expressed in neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells undergoing cell death by apoptosis in response to the neurotoxin colchicine. The approved gene symbol is CUGBP2 [CUG triplet repeat RNA binding protein 2]. NAPOR-1, NAPOR-2, and NAPOR-3 are splice variants. NAPOR-3 is expressed nearly exclusively in neurons, whereas the other two are expressed ubiquitously (Li et al, 2001).
