This protein, termed originally p66-mot-1, has been described by Wadhwa et al (1993). Mortalin is a member of a protein family of proteins related to the heat shock protein hsp70 and has been described independently as PBP74 [peptide binding protein 74], a protein implicated in playing a role in antigen processing (Domanico et al, 1993), and human and rat grp75 [glucose regulated protein 75] (Massa et al, 1995).
