Mdeiger

Mdeiger is an ortholog of Eiger from Musca domestica. Its expression is up-regulated significantly upon challenge with either Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus. Silencing of Mdeiger expression causes higher mortalities of larvae after infection, enhances the expressions of antimicrobial peptides Attacin and Diptericin, but blocks the induction of Cecropin and Muscin, and inhibits the activation of phenoloxidase. The expression of Dorsal and mitogen-activated kinase JNK [c-jun N-terminal kinase] (MAPK8) is inhibited, whereas that of Relish is enhanced in Mdeiger-depleted larvae.
