abbr. MCF (a term with multiple meanings). These factors of 29 kDa (P29) and 14.7 kDa (P14.7) have been isolated from the conditioned medium of a human T-cell hybridoma. The two factors are not related to each other. They activate monocytes and increase their tumor cytotoxicity. They induce the synthesis of IL1 in macrophages. The analysis of the N-terminal sequence of P29 shows that it is not related to any other known cytokine (for other macrophage-activating factors see: MAF).
