LTA4H

[leukotriene A4 hydrolase; LTA-4 hydrolase] This enzyme (EC3.3.2.6) catalyzes the final step in the biosynthesis of the pro-inflammatory mediator and neutrophil attractant leukotriene B4, which is the conversion, through its epoxide hydrolase activity, of LTA4 into LTB4 [leukotriene B4] (Odlander et al, 1991; Mueller et al, 1995; overview by Haeggström et al, 2002). LTB4is a chemoattractant of immune cells expressing the LTB4 receptor, which includes eosinophils, macrophages, mast cells, and T-cells (Yokomizo et al, 1997). The enzyme is subject to suicide inhibition by leukotriene A4 (Mueller et al, 1995).
