[leukocytic pyrogen] This endogenous fever-inducing factor (Atkins, 1960) is released by polymorphonuclear leukocytes after stimulation in vitro (Collins and Wood, 1959; Berlin and Wood, 1964). The factor has been shown to be identical with LAF [lymphocyte activating factor] and thus is IL1 [interleukin-1] (Farrar et al, 1980). See also: EP (endogenous pyrogens).
