[lymphocyte activating factor] The term LAF activity refers to the ability of the conditioned medium of human monocytes incubated with endotoxins to stimulate the proliferation of murine thymocytes in the presence of phytohemagglutinin. This activity described in the older literature is identical with TPF (thymocyte proliferation factor) and HP1 (helper peak 1) and hence identical with IL1.
