This collective term, also polymorphonuclear cells (abbr. PMNs, also PMLs) or polymorphonucleocytes, pertains to granulocytes and reflects the different shapes that the nuclei of these cells can assume.
Polymorphonuclear leukocytes comprise neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils. Polymorphonuclear neutrophils share common precursor cells with basophils, eosinophils, and monocytes. and make up approximately 50-70 % of all white blood cells
