[Lymphocyte inhibitor of TRAIL] The gene encoding has been cloned by Mongkolsapaya et al (1998). LIT lacks a death domain. LIT is expressed predominantly on peripheral blood lymphocytes and acts as a competitive inhibitor of cell death by apoptosis induced by TRAIL acting on its receptor DR4 and thus can modulate lymphocyte sensitivity to TRAIL.
The LIT receptor is identical with TRAIL receptor-3. Owing to its homology to other members of the TNF receptor superfamily the receptor is being referred to also as TNFRSF10C [TNF receptor superfamily member 10C].
