[lin28 homolog B] LIN28B is a paralog of LIN28, which is the mammalian homolog of the Caenorhabditis elegans gene lin28, a gene that functions as a regulator of developmental timing and must be expressed in the first larval stage and downregulated by the second stage for normal nematode development. The protein contains a cold-shock domain and CSDD2 is used as a databank synonym.
Mutations in this gene cause precocious development where diverse events specific to the second larval stage are skipped (Moss et al, 1997; Ambros and Horvitz, 1984). For a paralog with overlapping functions see: LIN28.
