[leukemia inhibitory factor receptor; LIF receptor] This is the approved gene symbol for one subunit of the receptor for LIF. This subunit is being referred to also as LIFR-alpha [leukemia inhibitory factor receptor-alpha]. In the nomenclature of CD antigens the receptor has received the designation CD118.
The human cDNA encoding LIFR has been cloned by Gearing et al (1991) and its genomic structure has been described by Tomida and Gotoh (1996).
