This Caenorhabditis elegans protein contains one PDZ domain and 16 copies of an LRR domain (Legouis et al, 2000). It belongs to the family of LAP proteins, which are involved in the formation of complex protein networks that maintain the architecture of epithelial cells. The protein plays a critical role in assembling adherens junctions in Caenorhabditis elegans, as shown by the phenotype of mutants, which have abnormal and mislocalized adherens junctions and a disorganizhed actin cytoskeleton. The human homolog of this protein is Erbin, and the Drosophila melanogaster counterpart is scribble.
