[lymphocyte colony enhancing factor] This biochemically uncharacterized factor (90-110 kDa) have been identified in the conditioned medium of mitogen-treated lymphocytes. It enhances colony formation of T-cells in a colony formation assay (Zeevi et al, 1978). Werber et al (1983) have pointed out that LCEF activity may be due to more than one protein and that their bioactive fractions do not contain proteins with T-cell growth factor (TCGF) activity. Lenz et al (1990) have reported LCEF activity (30-40 and 100-140 kDa) in supernatants of CD4(+) cells, CD8(+) cells, B-cells, and null cells.
