[Kallikrein 6; Kallikrein-related peptidase 6] Previous gene symbols: PRSS9 [Serine protease 9], PRSS18 [Serine protease 18]. Little et al (1997) have cloned a cDNA encoding KLK6 from Alzheimer disease brain, which they referred to as Zyme, suggesting that the enzyme may generate beta-amyloid peptide from its precursor and may play a role in Alzheimer disease pathology. Yousef et al (1999) have described the genomic organization of the gene encoding Zyme.
