[Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor 2DS4] A cDNA encoding this NK-cell type I transmembrane protein receptor of 304 amino acids has been cloned by Wagtmann et al (1995), who called it CL39 [clone 39]. The gene has been cloned independently by Bottino et al (1996) who called it KKA3. The protein has been described also as NKAT8 [NK-associated transcript-8] (Dohring et al, 1996). The short cytoplasmic tail (39 amino acids) does not contain an ITIM motif, suggesting that this receptor is associated with NK-cell triggering rather than inhibition.
