[KAI1/CD82-associated surface protein] This transmembrane protein of 68 kDa has been identified by Zhang et al (2003). Peptide sequencing shows that KASP is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and is identical with EWI-2 [EWI motif-containing protein 2] or PGRL [prostaglandin regulatory like]. The approved gene symbol is IGSF8 [immunoglobulin superfamily member 8].
In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD316.
KASP is expressed ubiquitously in human tissues. The KASP protein is physically associated with CD82 and CD81
