[Janus kinase-3] The cDNA for rat JAK3 (Takahashi and Shirasawa, 1994) encodes a member of the JAK family of non-receptor tyrosine kinases known as Janus kinases. JAK3 is related phylogenetically most closely to JAK2 among the previously known JAK family members, JAK1, JAK2 and TYK2. Signaling molecules cooperating with JAK3 have been identified as STAM and STAM-2.
Southern analysis reveals that JAK3 is a single copy gene and well conserved in the vertebral genome. Northern analysis indicates that the 4.0 kb mRNA is transcribed in a variety of tissues including spleen, lung, kidney and intestine.
