designation for a family of glycorylphosphatidylinositol anchored neural cell adhesion molecules (Pimenta et al, 1996). The name of this protein family derives from the fact that these proteins belong to the immunoglobulin superfamily of proteins, and from the initials of the three proteins that constitute the founding members of this protein family: LAMP, OBCAM, and Neurotrimin.
