[IgA enhancing factor] This factor is found in conditioned medium of a subset of T-helper cell clones. It can enhance IgA synthesis in cultures of T-cell depleted spleen cells stimulated with bacterial lipopolysaccharides (Bond et al, 1987; Coffman et al, 1987). IL4 can potentiate the effect of the IgA-enhancing factor (Murray et al, 1987).
IgA-enhancing factor activity is mediated by the same polypeptide that has been characterized as BCGF-2 (B-cell growth factor-2), TRF (T-cell replacing factors), and EDF (eosinophil differentiation factor). IgA-EF is identical with IL5 (Yokota et al, 1987).
