[interleukin-hemopoietin-1] (H = Hybridoma; P = plasmacytoma; see also: HP1). A murine T-cell derived factor with growth factor activity for B-cell hybridomas and plasmacytomas (see also: PCT-GF, plasmacytoma growth factor). This factor was later shown to be produced also by macrophages and fibroblasts.

Van Snick et al (1988) have proposed the name IL6 for this factor.
