[Insulin-like growth factor binding protein-9] The designation IGFBP9 has been proposed by Kim et al (1997) for nov (Nephroblastoma overexpressed gene; also designated CCN3) following the observation that this factor possesses a conserved IGFBP motif (GCGCCXXC) found in binding proteins for IGF.
Yan et al (2006) have argued against a direct role of nov in the regulation of IGF bioavailability and have pointed out that the nomenclature of IGFBP-related proteins (which implies functional relationship to the classical IGFBP proteins) is inappropriate for nov proteins.
