[hsp70/hsc70-associating protein] Zeiner et al (1997) have proposed this designation for BAG1 as the protein interacts with a member of the heat shock family of proteins, hsp70. They have observed that ATP-dependent binding of misfolded proteins to hsp70 is greatly inhibited by BAG1.
As BAG1 exists in several isoforms (BAG1L, BAG1M, BAG1S), some of which have been described independently under different names, there are various double designations. RAP46/Hap46 and Hap46/BAG1M correspond to the 46 kDa form originally identified as RAP46 and are the same as BAG1M.
