[Helix cardioinhibitory peptide] This peptide (VFQNQFKGIQGRFamide) has been isolated from the brain of the snail Helix aspersa (Baud et al, 1998). It is present in visceral and parietal ganglia. HCIP is structurally related to ACEP-1 [Achatina cardioexcitatory peptide-1]. Synthetic HCIP has inhibitory actions not only on the ventricle but also on visceral neurons of the central nervous system of Helix. Immunocytochemical investigation indicates its presence in visceral and parietal ganglia.
