[growth hormone secretagogue receptor; GH releasing peptide receptor] abbr. also: GRLNR. GHSR is a G-protein-coupled receptor. The receptor is being referred to also as Growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1 or GH releasing peptide receptor. The human gene has been cloned by Howard et al (1996) and McKee et al (1997). The ligand for this receptor has been identified as ghrelin (Howard et al, 1996).
The GHSR mRNA is expressed as two splice variants, designated GHSR-1a (366 amino acids) and an apparently non-functional receptor, designated GHSR-1b (289 amino acids) (Howard et al, 1996).
