abbr. FIBL-6 or FBLN6. The approved gene symbol is HMCN1 [hemicentin 1]. Fibulin-6 is a very large protein (5614 amino acids) of the extracellular matrix. The human protein contains 44 tandem Ig modules, 6 thrombospondin I modules, and 8 EGF modules (Carpten et al, 2000).
Some isoforms are expressed in skin fibroblasts, retinal endothelial cells, and retinal pigment epithelium cells (Schultz et al, 2003).
