Fibronectin-binding growth factor
This factor of 25 kDa is isolated from bovine serum (Eskandarani and Ayad, 1989). It consists of two chains held together with disulfide bonds that are required for full activity.
The biological activity of the factor is in a latent form that requires acidification, alkalinisation or exposure to urea for activation.
At 50 ng/mL the factor has been shown to be mitogenic for murine fibroblasts. It is inhibitory at 10 ng/mL for murine 3T3 cells. The factor stimulates colony formation by fibroblasts on soft agar in the presence of 5 ng/mL EGF (see also: Colony formation assay).
