Eurocin (42 amino acids; GFGCPGDAYQCSEHCRALGGGRTGGYCAGPWYLGHPTCTCSF) is an antimicrobial peptide related to defensins. It has been isolated together with numerous other defensin-like peptides from the fungus Eurotium amstelodami. Eurocin acts against a range of Gram-positive human pathogens, including various Streptococcus and Enterococcus species, but not against Gram-negative bacteria. Eurocin does not form pores in cell membranes at physiologically relevant concentrations although it causes limited leakage of a fluorophore from small unilamellar vesicles. Eurocin, like plectasin
