[expressed in low-metastatic cells] Elm1 cDNA encodes a predicted protein of 367 amino acids and has been identified as a gene that is expressed in low-metastatic but not in high-metastatic K-1735 mouse melanoma cells (Hashimoto et al, 1998). The Elm1 protein is related to the CCN family proteins, which comprises secreted cysteine-rich proteins with growth regulatory functions. Sequence analysis shows that Elm1 is identical with WISP-1 [Wnt-1 induced secreted protein-1; Wnt1-inducible signaling pathway protein-1].
Expression of Elm1 appears to correlate with in vivo growth and metastatic potential of K-1735 mouse melanoma cells. Cells
