DL-M

[DRAGON-like muscle] This is the name given by Samad et al (2004) to a gene sequence showing homology to DRAGON and related molecules. The sequence of DL-M and related proteins is highly conserved among mammals, zebrafish, chicken, and Caenorhabditis elegans, but not Drosophila.

The expression of DL-M is restricted to skeletal and cardiac muscle.

The encoded protein is identical with hemojuvelin (RGMc), which, like DRAGON, is one of the members of a family of related proteins known as RGM [repulsive guidance molecule].
