[DED-associated factor] The cDNA for this factor was found in a screen for proteins with a death effector domain known to be crucial for the signaling pathways of death receptor mediated apoptosis. DEDAF is highly conserved between human and mouse (98 % amino acid identity). The protein has been identified independently as RYBP [Ring1 and YY1 binding protein], which is also the approved gene symbol (Garcia et al, 1999) and YEAF1 [YY1 and E4TF1/hGABP-associated factor-1] (Sawa et al, 2002), two proteins that influence transcription by interacting with certain transcription factors
