[discoidin domain receptor 2] In the nomenclature of CD antigens this receptor has been given the designation CD167b.
DDR2 is activated directly by collagens in the extracellular matrix and thus has the potential to control cellular responses to the extracellular matrix. DDR2 is almost stimulated selectively by fibrillar collagens only (Vogel et al, 1997; Shrivastava et al, 1997). Mihai et al (2006) have established that by binding to collagen, the extracellular domain of DDR2 inhibits collagen fibrillogenesis and alters the morphology of collagen type 1 fibers. Leitinger and Kwan (2006) have reported that non-fibrillar collagen type X is also a ligand for DDR2.
