DAPK1
[death-associated protein kinase-1] This is the same as DAPK, DAP kinase.
The DAPK1 promoter is activated by TGF-beta. This requires several of the SMAD proteins (SMAD2, SMAD3, SMAD4) (Jang et al, 2001). Overexpression of DAPK1 leads to cell death by apoptosis in the absence of TGF-beta, whereas inhibition of the kinase protects cells from apoptosis induced by TGF-beta. The protein has been shown to contain a ROC domain.
Raveh et al (2001) have concluded that DAPK1 may play a role in the elimination of premalignant cells
