18 different Cromer blood antigen variants (numbered CROM1 to CROM18) have been described. Of these, CROM3, CHROM4, and CROM8 represent low-incidence antigens; all others are high-frequency antigens. Some of these variants appear to be associated with specific ethnic groups (for recent overview and references see also: Daniels, Geoff, 2013). These Cromer antigen variants reside on DAF [decay-accelerating factor], which, in the nomenclature of CD antigens, has been given the designation CD55.
