[Cell death abnormality protein 1] The Caenorhabditis elegans gene CED1 encodes a transmembrane protein similar to human SREC (Scavenger Receptor from Endothelial Cells) (Zhou et al, 2001). Su et al (2002) have suggested that CD91 (LRP; Low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein) may be the human homolog of CED1. CD91 has been shown to act as a receptor involved in the phagocytosis of apoptotic cells in mammals. LRP has been shown also to function as a receptor for Alpha-2-Macroglobulin. The human homolog has been identified independently as MEGF10
