[CD58(+), CD58(-)]
This cell surface antigen has been termed LFA-3 [lymphocyte function-associated antigen-3], identified originally as an antigen associated with human T-lymphocyte mediated cytolysis (Sanchez-Madrid et al, 1982; Krensky et al, 1983). The antigen has been identified independently as T11TS [T11 target structure].
Wallner et al (1987) and Seed (1987) have isolated the human cDNA encoding CD58 (222 amino acids). CD58 is a heavily glycosylated protein structurally and phylogenetically related to CD48 (Wong et al, 1990). CD58 is a member of the CD2 family.
