[Brugia malayi macrophage migration inhibitory factor] The parasitic nematode Brugia malayi produces two proteins, termed Bm-MIF-1 and Bm-MIF-2, that are homologous with the mammalian cytokine MIF, which plays a role in inflammation, cell activation, and cell differentiation (Pastrana et al, 1998). Similar genes are found also in other parasites, including related filarial species Wuchereria bancrofti and Onchocerca volvulus, Trichuris muris (TmMIF), Brugia pahangi (BpMIF), Trichinella spiralis (TsMIF) (Pennock et al, 1998)
