This antimicrobial peptide, KRFKKFFKKLKNSVKKRVKKFFRKPRVIGVTFPF, from the venom gland of the South American pit viper Bothrops atrox belongs to the family of snake cathelicidins (so-called vipericidins) and is active against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Streptococcus pyogenes
