[Brassica stamen specific plant defensin 1] BSD1 cDNA has been cloned from Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. pekinensis) by Park et al (2002). The gene is expressed in a stamen-specific manner and encodes a plant defensin peptide in. Recombinant BSD1 shows antifungal activity against several phytopathogenic fungi. Constitutive over-expression of the BSD1 gene confers enhanced tolerance against the Phytophthora parasitica in transgenic tobacco plants.
