[BCL2-related ovarian death gene] This protein was identified in an ovarian cDNA library in a search for proteins capable of interacting with the anti-apoptotic protein MCL1 (Hsu Y et al, 1998) . BOD mRNA is ubiquitously expressed in ovary and multiple other tissues. The BOD gene is also conserved in diverse mammalian species.
The three variants of BOD (196, 110, and 93 amino acids) contain the consensus BCL2 homology BH3 domain but lack other related domains found in BCL2 family proteins. BOD is being referred to also as BCL2-like-11 and is the same as BIM and BAM.
