BIM
[BCL2 interacting mediator of cell death] This protein was identified by virtue of its ability to bind to BCL2. The approved gene symbol is BCL2L11 [BCL2-like-11].
The protein is one of the BH3-only proteins, containing a single BCL2 homology domain BH3. BIM is the same as BAM, and BOD.
Three BIM isoforms, BIM-S (short), BIM-L (long), and BIM-EL (extra long), have been described. All isoforms induce cell death by apoptosis. Mami et al (2001) have described six other alternative splice forms of human BIM,
