[Epstein-Barr virus BILF1 protein] This protein is encoded by an open reading frame of the same name in the genome Epstein-Barr virus (Baer et al, 1983). BILF1 is a constitutively active viral G-protein-coupled receptor (Paulsen et al, 2005) that couples to G-proteins of the G(i/o) class and is capable of modulating CRE (cyclic AMP-, serum- and phorbol ester-responsive reporter)-mediated signaling, stimulating signaling mediated by transcription factor NF-kappa-B, and inhibiting RNA-dependent protein kinase activation (Beisser et al, 2005).
Vischer et al (2008) have reported that BILF1 heterodimerizes with various chemokine receptors expressed endogenously on plasma B-cells
