This cell line has been established from a human primary effusion lymphoma (PEL), a type of lymphoma occuring predominantly in AIDS patients (Drexler et al, 1999). The cells are infected with HHV-8 (KSHV). The cells secrete large amounts of IL10 (29645 pg/mL) into the conditioned medium. The cells do not produce significant levels of MIP-1-alpha or LIF.
