[brain-associated small cell lung cancer antigen] This cell surface antigen of 125 kDa is recognized by the monoclonal antibody TFS-4 selectively on small cell lung cancer but not on nonsmall cell lung cancer. Cross-reaction is seen with human brain, cardiac muscle, and some smooth muscle cells (Fukayama et al, 1990). Umezawa et al (1991) have reported that the antigen is identical with the cellular adhesion molecule NCAM. The new designation for this antigen is CD56.
