BAMBI is a transmembrane protein identified by Onichtchouk et al (1999). BAMBI is a non-signaling, competitive pseudoreceptor related to TGF-beta family type 1 receptors that lacks an intracellular kinase domain. BAMBI has been shown to interfere with signaling of bone morphogenetic proteins and Activin A by inhibiting TGF-beta receptor type 1 activation.
