A protein related to B7 and designated CD86 (Engel et al, 1994; Caux et al, 1994). The murine gene has been cloned by Freeman et al (1993).
B7-2 provides an important positive costimulatory signal on interaction with CD28 on resting T-cells (Engel et al, 1994). Interaction of B7-2 with CTLA-4 on recently activated cells can restrict responses of T-cells (Sharpe and Freeman, 2002; Abbas and Sharpe, 1999).
