[Augmenter of liver regeneration] Approved gene symbol: GFER [growth factor erv-related]. In some publications the abbreviation ALRP [ALR protein] is used (Hagiya M et al, 1994).

ALR is a homodimeric protein found originally in the cytosol of weanling rat livers. The cloned ALR cDNA encodes a protein consisting of 125 amino acids. Rat, mouse, and human ALR genes (and protein products) are highly conserved and expressed preferentially in the testis and in the liver (Giorda et al, 1996).
