[Anti-dorsalizing morphogenetic protein] This growth factor has been identified in Xenopus laevis. It is related closely to human BMP3 (Moos et al, 1995).
ADMP suppresses the development of dorsal and anterior structures. ADMP expression is induced by treatment with lithium chloride and also with Activin A, which is known to produce the opposite effect. Overexpression of the gene downregulates the expression of several other dorsalizing factors, including Follistatin, and the expression of several dorsal markers, whereas ventral markers are induced (Dosch and Niehrs, 2000).
