4K-PTTH

[4 kDa prothoracicotropic hormone] 4K-PTTH is a hormone produced by neurosecretory cells in the dorso-medial region of the Bombyx brain (Ishizaki and Suzuki, 1988). In early publications it is being referred to also as S-PTTH [S-prothoracicotropic hormone] ('S' referring to the moth Samia cynthia ricini in which the bioactivity was assayed) (for overview on early work see: Ishizaki and Suzuki, 1994). The hormone is now being referred to as Bombyxin.

4K-PTTH consists of at least three molecular species, 4K-PTTH-I, 4K-PTTH-II, and 4K-PTTH-III. The peptides show considerable sequence homology with ... ... ... ...
